Our blog post today will be all about turning grief into inspiration. Well, this time of the year has a special significance for me regarding this subject. A special person in my life, passed on around this time last year, my grandfather. He was the king of my life.
My grandfather’s love
Words can’t even describe who he was or he was to my life. I’ll try to explain. It’s like the person you can call on your worst of days and best of days that always has the most perfect advice to make you feel. One of the best of many qualities about him was his curiosity and love of learning everything new. Even at 90, he would tell me something new going on in the world. I never forget coming home and telling him about a horrible day I had. He listened steadily and finally answered, ‘I lived your life 3 times.” I immediately started laughing and couldn’t stop.
Transition Phase
Those dealing with grief can learn how their love ones lived their life and find inspiration. The process can take months and years and take different forms. I found that discussing him openly help me. There are plenty of safe spaces online as well, to grieve a lost grandparent. Their is no wrong or right way to grieve but finding some type of positive outlet is key. Someone’s death that is close to you, can also make you so grateful for the people around you and what you do have to enjoy in life.
Managing a chronic disease
It sparked my curiosity, what do you want to learn more about? What do you already know? What value can you bring to the world? Well, do you know a lot about how to live and genuinely enjoy life with a “chronic” disease. You have a career in education, traveled the world, wonderful family and friends, and enjoy a healthy active lifestyle. So the first step is accepting your new lifestyle and not just managing your symptoms. Eating to live and keep your body healthy may seem like a daunting task but just day by day making the best choices your body is what’s most important. I have been on so many rollercoasters, trying “fad” diets or gimmicks but the most important key is learning your body. What makes your body feel good? Is it a good walk with your family? A boot camp workout class? A nice home cooked meal? Could be a simple foot massage?
We will be discussing your health, wellness, and travel experience can be such private and personal journeys, it easy to feel alone. I am here and happy (and a little scared) to share some of my journey and heart with you.
